FAQs

What is roaming, and how does it work?

Roaming is when a driver starts a charging session at your charger using a different charging app, not the Monta app. Monta handles the full backend, session management, billing, and settlement, and you receive your revenue instantly to your Monta wallet.

What's the difference between managed and self-managed roaming?

Managed roaming (default): Monta handles everything, all OCPI integrations, contracts, and settlement. Self-managed roaming: you manage your own bilateral agreements directly with specific eMSPs via OCPI, while Monta maintains the technical integration.

What's the difference between inbound and outbound roaming?

Inbound: external drivers charge at your charge points and you receive revenue. Outbound: your drivers charge at other networks' charge points using their Monta-linked account.

How do I enable roaming on my charge points?

In Monta Hub: go to your charger settings, toggle Roaming on, and set a roaming price. Roaming can only be enabled on charge points configured as public.

Who handles settlement with roaming networks?

With managed roaming, Monta collects payment from the eMSP, settles with all roaming partners monthly, and you receive your revenue instantly to your Monta wallet.

What price should I set for roaming?

European markets typically set a 10-20% premium over the public price. The US market generally sets roaming price equal to public price to keep things simple.

How does VAT work on roaming transactions?

In European markets, Monta adds VAT on top of the roaming price shared with the roaming network. In the US, sales tax does not typically apply. Cross-border B2B roaming applies a 0% reverse charge.
